It provides some interesting context for the Red Rising saga which diehard fans of the novels could enjoy. I'd much rather listen to an audiobook consisting of just the voice actor preforming and allowing me to take in that performance without embellishment. Pair that with music and sound effects that sound tacked on and just added for the sake of having them and you can begin to understand why I didn't really enjoy this format. It was honestly really jarring at times to hear the difference in the quality of these performances clash while listening to the novel. Because of the nature of this adaptation, each character has their own voice, meaning either their own voice actor or a previous voice actor doing a different voice. The narrator and most of the main characters have good performances in this adaptation, however, the side characters were seriously lacking. Without even getting into the story, I honestly can't say that I enjoyed this presentation format. I read this series as a dramatized adaptation, including an ensemble cast, music, and sound effects. Red Rising: Sons of Ares is a prequel graphic novel to the Red Rising saga be Pierce Brown. ALSO, I never really even heard of an audio graphic novel before listening to this series so that was a new experience for me. I need to start this review off with a caveat, I really didn't intend to red volume 1 or 2 of Red Rising: Son of Ares but I needed to find something to listen to in the car.
